ABOUT BHUV
SCROLL TO EXPLORE

“For me, making clothes is about sharing art through garments that help women step into their most confident, sensual, and elevated selves. I want each piece to feel effortless, thoughtful, and timeless—something they’ll reach for again and again”

Bhuv began in 2013, in the boys’ quarters of a family home along Awolowo Road. With just a single sewing machine and a curiosity for construction, what started as a small, intimate practice soon became a pursuit of intention. Early on, the focus was on custom garments—shaping fit, exploring form, and giving clients a personal sense of style.

As these pieces began to resonate beyond individual clients, Bhuv naturally grew into a ready-to-wear collection for women who value heritage, craftsmanship, and individuality. Since 2023, the brand has found a home alongside Flat17Studio, blending creative experimentation with thoughtful presentation.

Every garment carries Bhuv’s signature attention to detail and quiet sophistication. Hand-dyed adire prints, woven asooke, and natural fabrics come together in structured, feminine silhouettes. Each seam, fold, and finish is guided by a mix of discipline and instinct, creating pieces that honor heritage while feeling entirely alive in the modern world. Reflecting on the brand’s journey, Karen says: “It’s a privilege to dress women from all walks of life in African fashion that feels personal and familiar. When someone wears Bhuv, it becomes part of her story—it belongs to her.”

A key milestone came with the launch of the She Collection in April 2024, bringing together clients, stockists, and collaborators for an intimate celebration of design. Later that year, Bhuv presented at Accra Fashion Week 2024, where Vogue Italia recognized the brand as one of five standout designers—marking Bhuv’s first international acknowledgment and a meaningful step onto a wider stage. Today, Bhuv continues to explore modern Nigerian fashion with intention, balancing heritage and innovation, craft and story, in garments that feel personal, timeless, and unapologetically alive.

The meaning of Bhuv

The meaning of BHUV

The name Bhuv comes from the Zuru language, where it means “home”. The spelling is unique—taken from Karen’s mother’s pronunciation—but the essence remains the same: creating a space where people feel at ease, connected, and inspired.

Interestingly, “Bhuv” also translates to “earth,” reflecting the brand’s broader vision: to be a home for anyone, anywhere, to connect with culture and heritage. Bhuv bridges tradition and universality, offering garments that celebrate African craftsmanship while remaining relevant to women across the world.
